Mr John ‘Johnny’ Cowie

John Cowie left school and started work as a baker. John was a religious man, serving as a Salvation Army Officer during his adulthood.
John describes living conditions and hardships as experienced by his family.

He tells of his training as a baker in the 1920’s, the experiences of selling bread to fisherman at the Yarmouth fishing and working conditions in general in his trade. He creates a vivid picture of the lives people led in the first half of the 20th century, with particular reference to the community spirit which prevailed.
