Interviews

William Findlay

William Findlay and his brother Peter were born and brought up in Cullen. Both William and his brother owned the steam drifter ’Rambler Rose’ and for this reason were known locally as Weelum (William) and Peter Rambler. They sold the steam drifter to new owners in Norway at the close of the Second World War.

The brothers had a replacement boat built by Irvins of Peterhead which again was to be named Rambler Rose. The brothers fished successfully with this new vessel until their retirement in 1968. In this interview William recalls his experiences of some 51 years as a fisherman.

The original interview was carried out in July 1988. The interview has been voiced by the ‘Buckie Blethers’ in local dialect.
